Penn State wrestling star Levi Haines is on the brink of his third straight Big Ten Championship.
All he has to do is win one more match.
As expected, the top-seeded Haines took care of business in his two matches Saturday.
In his quarterfinal bout, he pinned Purdue’s Brody Baumann. Then, in the semis, he had little issue getting a decision against No. 4 Patrick Kennedy (Iowa), winning 10-3.
The second semifinal bout at 174 was a tad more dramatic.
For a second, it looked like No. 7 Dan Braunagel (Illinois) had scored an 8-6 decision and upset over No. 3 Lenny Pinto (Nebraska). But a challenge by Nebraska coach Mark Manning led to the refs determining that Pinto had indeed picked up a last-second takedown, thus giving him a 9-8 win.
