It initially looked like Drew Allar would for sure be coming back to Penn State football in 2025, and, hey, he still very well might be.
Nothing the PSU QB has said has contradicted his announcement from last month, in which he declared his intent to return for a fourth year.
But, Allar could still change his mind.
The “hard” deadline to declare for the NFL Draft is Jan. 15, which gives Allar at least two weeks to think about it. If Penn State makes it to the national title game, scheduled for Jan. 20, Allar will have until Jan. 24.
Two important dates to watch with Drew Allar:
• Jan. 15 – “Hard” deadline for prospects to declare.
• Jan. 24 – Exclusive deadline for prospects on two teams participating in FBS title game to declare.

So if Allar wanted to change his mind, he could.
HOT IN ARIZONA

Drew Allar during pregame warmups ahead of the Big Ten Championship game.
Allar’s stat line for New Year’s Eve’s Fiesta Bowl/College Football Playoff Quarterfinal win over Boise State doesn’t look great. He completed just 13 of 25 passes for 171 yards. But he also threw for three touchdowns, and all three were dimes.

There were also throws Allar made that receivers— including tight end Tyler Warren, of all people— could have caught and didn’t.
Allar’s performance earned the praise of one ESPN analyst and former NFL quarterback.
Felt like last night was one of, if not the best games of Allars career for @PennStateFball,” Dan Orlovsky posted to X (formerly Twitter) Wednesday morning, “when it came to -decision making in a muddy pocket -ball placement vs tight coverage -confidence hanging in the pocket -playing faster with his eyes on 3rd downs.”
WHAT IF HE DOES LEAVE

Penn State freshman quarterback Ethan Grunkemeyer looks to pass.
Again, there’s nothing 100% concrete right now that says Allar is reconsidering. But if there’s a change of plans, it would be hard for Penn State to find a quality QB from the transfer portal. If they don’t find one, Ethan Grunkemeyer, who has thrown two college passes and will be a redshirt freshman next season, will likely be next in line.
