A former Penn State QB target plans to enter the transfer portal.
Hayes Fawcett of On3Sports reported late Tuesday morning that Luke Kromenhoek, a 6-foot-5, 200-pounder, plans to enter the portal after a season at Florida State.

This shouldn’t come as a surprise.
Florida State is coming off the most disappointing season maybe in college football history, and that’s not an exaggeration. Coach Mike Norvell’s team started the season ranked No. 10 and proceeded to lose 10 games. To make matters worse, only one of its two wins came against a Division I program (6-6 Cal). The other came against… wait for it… Charleston Southern.
BAPTISM BY FIRE

In a perfect world, Kromenhoek would have spent Year 1 learning the ropes.
That, eh, didn’t exactly happen.
Because Florida State never found a definitive QB1, Kromenhoek ended up playing in half of Florida State’s 12 games, burning his redshirt. In those six games, Kromenhoek completed 44 of 84 passes, throwing for three touchdowns, two interceptions and 502 yards. 28 of those passes came in the season finale against Florida, a career high.

Penn State offered Kromenhoek in May 2023 and continued to recruit him after he committed with Florida State.
Nittany Sports Now talked with him after he had been committed, and his words are particularly interesting looking back.
“Anything can happen,” he told NSN, “anyone can leave, programs can come crashing to the ground, and stuff like that. I think it’s good, and it’s important to build relationships with other coaches and other programs. That’s kind of what I’m doing with Penn State, just in case something goes wrong.”
A lot of things “went wrong” at Florida State in 2024.
But would Kromenhoek make sense for Penn State in 2025? A lot of that depends on Drew Allar.
If Allar returns, the earliest Kromenhoek— who has three years of eligibility left— could realistically be a starter would be 2026. If Allar leaves for the NFL, Kromenhoek would have a chance to beat out Beau Pribula, who has been used mainly as a runner, and Ethan Grunkemeyer, a soon-to-be redshirt freshman who has never thrown a college pass.
Penn State will play its first College Football Playoff game at Beaver Stadium Dec. 21 against SMU. Kickoff is scheduled for noon on TBS.
