One of the greatest to ever perform for Penn State wrestling, David Taylor, is now the boss at Oklahoma State.

Early Friday afternoon, Oklahoma State announced its 2024-25 wrestling schedule, ending will start Nov. 15 and end Feb. 23.

Taylor got to Penn State near the beginning of the Cael Sanderson era and ended up putting together one of the most decorated careers ever, winning two Hodge Trophies, two national championships and four appearances in a national title bout

After Penn State, he became a USA Wrestling legend, winning three World Championships, four World Medals and, most notably, Olympic Gold at the Tokyo Games in 2021.

NON-CONFERENCE SLATE

David Taylor and Oklahoma State will start its season somewhat unconventionally with a conference bout at Utah Valley Nov. 15. Nine days later, it hosts Arizona State. OSU then goes three weeks  without another non-conference dual meet before it takes on Virginia Tech in Stillwater. Three weeks later, it hosts another ACC school when NC State comes to town. OSU then ends its regular season with two OOC dual meets, at Little Rock and at Penn State’s main rival, Iowa.

BIG 12 MATCHUPS

After the Utah Valley dual meet, when David Taylor and OSU will be back in conference action Nov. 22 when it hosts Wyoming, who Penn State hosts Dec. 15. Two days before that, Taylor will experience his first  “Bedlam” Dual Meet when it takes on Oklahoma in Norman. OSU’s first dual meet of 2025 will be a conference bout against Air Force at home. 16 days later, conference foe West Virginia takes on Taylor and company in Stillwater. From there, its consecutive conference road dual meets at Northern Iowa and Iowa State. Oklahoma State starts February with a home dual meet against Missouri, which is still in the Big 12 for wrestling. That will be all for conference dual meets. But Oklahoma State will face plenty of Big 12 competition at the conference championships scheduled for March 8-9.

WILL PENN STATE EVER BE ON THE SCHEDULE?

Since Taylor became the boss at Oklahoma State, fans have wondered if OSU-PSU would ever be a dual meet.

NSN ask Taylor this question in an exclusive over the summer.

“It would be the most exciting dual meet probably in the history of wrestling,” he said.

Taylor feels the dual meet would be “great to have a continual home and away opportunity for both places.”

“I think both fanbases would really enjoy that,” he said. “I think the wrestling community would be excited about that.”

Taylor did mention that there would be some challenges to making this happen.

“I think, obviously, being a coach, you have to work around your scheduling and you can only have so many non-conference opportunities,” he said, “but if the opportunity presents itself and that’s something we can work out, I think it would be really fun.”
