Penn State coach Matt Campbell made it clear that he’d emphasis recruiting during the bye week, and an example of him doing that is offering a West Virginia commit.
The commit is Christopher “Roscoe” Hayes, a three-star receiver from Westlake High School in Atlanta, Georgia.
Hayes committed to WVU in March and also has offers from schools such as Cincinnati, Illinois, Kansas State, Kentucky, NC State, Pitt, Wake Forest and Wisconsin.
Per 247Sports, Hayes ended last season with 684 yards and six touchdowns on 47 catches. At 6-foot-6 and 186 pounds, Hayes is a guy who wouldn’t be hard for a quarterback to find, and he plays a position of need for Penn State. Since Parker Washington departed after the 2022 season, Penn State has struggled to find production in the receivers room, with this being most evident in the 2025 Orange Bowl/College Football Playoff Semifinal against Notre Dame in which Penn State didn’t get a reception from any of its receivers and lost by a field goal.
This season, it looked like Penn State had a bonfide No. 1 receiver in Koby Howard, who eclipsed 100 yards in two of PSU’s first three games.
But Howard has been out for the last four games with an injury, and although Chase Sowell has stepped up (246 yards and a touchdown on 15 catches in the last two games alone), Sowell will be out of eligibility after this season.
Penn State has one receiver committed in its 2027 class, with that being Landon Blum, a four-star from Iowa’s Woodbine High School.
