AP Poll: Where Penn State, Ohio State Stand Ahead of Showdown

Penn State coach James Franklin said not playing Drew Allar in the second half came down to him being healthy enough to lead the offense the way Penn State wanted him to.

The latest AP Poll has been released and Penn State and Ohio State are each ranked highly, as expected.

Also expected was neither team moving from last week’s poll, which is exactly how things turned out.

As a result of No. 1 Oregon pounding Illinois and No. 2 Georgia being on a bye, neither Penn State or Ohio State had room to move up, and they didn’t.

Penn State stayed at No. 3 in the AP Poll following its 28-13 win at Wisconsin Saturday night, and Ohio State stayed at No. 4 after grinding out a 21-17 win over Nebraska in Columbus Saturday afternoon.

As a result, this will be the first time Penn State and Ohio State have played as top five opponents since 1996 and just the second time overall.

GAMEDAY IS COMING

College GameDay will be back at Penn State for the first time since 2021.

As unsurprising as Penn State and Ohio State staying put in the rankings is the fact that College GameDay will be in Happy Valley for the first time since 2021. Pat McAfee hinted that this would be happening on this past Saturday’s episode, which was held in Bloomington, Indiana. Now, it’s coming into fruition. Penn State has won its last two meetings on College GameDay, with its last loss being to Ohio State in 2018.

WILL DREW ALLAR PLAY?

Before exiting Penn State’s win over Wisconsin Saturday, Oct. 26, QB Drew Allar was 14 of 18 for 148 yards and a touchdown

A big storyline headed into this week’s showdown will be the health of Penn State QB Drew Allar. Will he play, or won’t he? Allar left the Wisconsin game with an injury in the last minute of the first half, and Beau Pribula took over. Pribula ended up playing quite well, completing 11 of 13 passes for 98 yards and a touchdown.

On the other side, Ohio State QB Will Howard felt slighted when Penn State didn’t offer him— Dowingtown, PA, native— a scholarship. Yep, it will be a fun one.
