AP Poll: Penn State Jumped Over

James Frankllin
Penn State head coach James Franklin

A little more than an hour after Penn State got jumped over in the Coaches Poll the same thing happened in the AP Poll.

In the Coaches Poll, Penn State stayed at No. 3 but got bypassed by Georgia, which had been No. 5 before its statement win over then-No. 1 Texas in Austin Saturday night, 30-15.

Penn State also stayed at No. 3 in the AP Poll, and Georgia moved to No. 2 behind Oregon.

While it’s best to be ranked as highly as possible, this shouldn’t have a big effect on Penn State. PSU is 6-0 and in complete command of its destiny.

WHAT ABOUT THE BUCKEYES?

Ohio State has “The Best Damn Band in The Land.” Does it have “The Best Damn Team in the Land?”

The biggest game Penn State has in the 2024 regular season is the Nov. 2 clash against Ohio State, and the same is probably true for OSU as well. Like Penn State, Ohio State didn’t play this weekend, and like Penn State, it got lept by Georgia while keeping its ranking (No. 4). Ohio State shouldn’t have a problem this coming Saturday against Nebraska— which lost 56-7 at Indiana this weekend. Assuming Ohio State takes care of Nebraska and Penn State does the same at Wisconsin, each team will be in the top four come the first Saturday in November. Furthermore, it would be a surprise is ESPN’s College GameDay is anywhere but State College that weekend.

‘OUR INDIANA’

Indiana is 7-0 and set to be favored in three of its last for games (at Ohio State Nov. 23 is the lone exception)

Indiana has been the biggest surprise in the Big Ten this season and maybe the biggest surprise in the country. Under first-year coach Curt Cignetti, IU is 7-0 and ranked No. 13. Aside from its Nov. 23 clash at Ohio State, Indiana will likely be favored to win every game it plays the rest of the way.

But Penn State can’t worry about Indiana or Oregon because they are not on the schedule. Penn State instead will have to worry about Wisconsin, then Ohio State, then Washington, then Purdue, then Minnesota, then Maryland, who it plays in its season finale.
