Beau Pribula, Stingy Second Half Defense Sends Penn State to 28-13 Win Over Wisconsin

Penn State coach James Franklin said not playing Drew Allar in the second half came down to him being healthy enough to lead the offense the way Penn State wanted him to.

Madison, WIโ€” Penn State fought off a rowdy crowd, a tough Wisconsin team and an injury to its starting quarterback to beat Wisconsin, 28-13, at Camp Randall Stadium Saturday night in Madison.

The win moves No. 3 Penn State to 7-0.

Wisconsin got the scoring started by ending its first possession with a field goal. This was made possible by Wisconsin punter Atticus Bertrams running a fake punt on 4th and 9 for 15 yards. From there, Nathanial Vakos nailed a 50-yard field goal.

It remained 3-0 at the end of the first quarter but Penn State scored early in the second quarter with a 9-play, 90-yard scoring drive that ended with a 6-yard TD pass from Allar to Nicholas Singleton.

Wisconsin retook the lead late in the first half on a 10-play, 72-yard scoring drive that ended with a 1-yard touchdown run by Tawee Walker.

Penn State started the second half without starting QB Drew Allar, who went to the locker room with an injury toward the end of the second quarter.

Penn Stateโ€™s defense needed a turnover, and one of its best and most experienced players made one happen.

A pick-six by Jaylen Reed with 6:29 left in the third quarter gave Penn State the lead again.

On the next drive, Wisconsin got closer with a Vakos field goal, making it a one-point game.

But Penn State pushed the lead to eight points on the next drive. A 13-play, 81-yard drive ended with a 1-yard TD pass from Pribulaโ€” playing in relief of Allarโ€” to tight end Khalil Dinkins.

Kaytron Allen pushed the Penn State lead to double digits with a 24-yard touchdown scamper with 3:10 left in the fourth quarter.

Wisconsin’s last gasp came up short with a turnover on downs deep in Penn State territory.

Penn State has Ohio State, who squeaked by Nebraska 21-17, next week. Not much more needs to be said.
