Ohio State QB Will Howard grew up a Penn State fan but didn’t end up playing at PSU.
According to Howard, the program overlooked him.
Howard grew up in Dowingtown, Pennsylvania, which is located less than three hours away from State College.
He played at Downingtown West High School where he was teammates with current Penn State starting left tackle Drew Shelton. A three-star recruit out of high school, Howard was at Penn State’s game against Ohio State Sept. 29, 2018 but there’s no record of him recovering in an offer.
Howard also wasn’t offered by Ohio State and ended up committing to Kansas State in June 2019, where he played his first four college seasons before transferring to OSU this winter.
‘I CANNOT WAIT’
Everybody from both PSU and Ohio State will be excited for next week’s showdown but for Howard, there’s some extra motivation.
Next Saturday, Nov. 2, will be Howard’s first chance to play against Penn State, since Kansas State hasn’t played PSU since 1969.
After Ohio State’s 21-17 win over Nebraska Oct. 26, Howard expressed his excitement.
“I’m stoked,” he said, via Stefan Krajisnik of ClevelandDotCom. “I cannot wait. It’s going to be a homecoming for me. Grew up a Penn State fan. I wanted to go there my whole life. They didn’t think I was good enough. I guess we’ll see next week if I was.”

The Buckeyes clearly on to Penn State.

WE SHALL SEE
Penn State and Ohio State are each likely to be in the top five when the team’s meet Saturday. If that happens, it would be the second time in history the two teams have met as top five foes, with the first being in 1996.
Ohio State won that game, 38-7. For it to win this game, Howard will likely need to be sharp.
Meanwhile, Penn State improved to 7-0 Saturday night with a 28-13 win at Wisconsin.
Kickoff for PSU-Ohio State is scheduled for noon on Fox.
