Penn State Recruiting: No. 2 ‘26 QB Commits Elsewhere Less than Month After PSU Visit

One of the top players in the Class of 2026 and a heavy Penn State target has committed elsewhere.

Hayes Fawcett of On3Sports reported Monday afternoon that Dia Bell, a five-star and the No. 2 QB in the Class of 2026, has committed to Texas.

Bell, a 6-foot-2, 200 pounder from American Heritage High School in Ft. Lauderdale, visited Penn State last month and has been on the school’s radar for a while.

Penn State offered Bell late last July while he was visiting for a camp. He’s made a few return visits since then. Bell came to PSU for the team’s win over Indiana late last October and, most recently, visiting this past May, the second time for an Elite 11 regional hosted at State College High School.

After the latest visit, Bell talked with Lions247 about his experience and relationship with Penn State.

“It’s good,” Bell told Lions247 after the Elite 11 regional at Memorial Field in State College last weekend. “I’ve been up here a bunch of times now. I have a great relationship with the staff up here, Coach Franklin, Coach Kotelnicki, Coach O’Brien, so any time I’ve come up here it’s a pleasure and I enjoy my time every time.”

Bell told Lions247 he “felt like I came out here and competed.

“I gave it my best shot,” he said. “I learned a lot from coming out here every time I’ve came out, and just be back next year. I’m happy to say that.

“I learned a lot of things. I mean, from little stuff to make sure you’re throwing it this high on the back line digs or crossing routes that you throw to the little footwork stuff that you can learn from it. That’s a bunch of stuff you can learn from it today.”

But Penn State has a lot of competition for Bell, who ended last season with 1,929 yards passing, 20 touchdowns and four interceptions, completing 122 of 189 attempts.
