On the first day of this transfer portal cycle, a Penn State basketball player has reportedly entered.
Per Verbal Commits, Bragi Guomundsson , a 6-foot-5, 175 pound guard who just wrapped up his true freshman season, was the first one.
Guomundsson, originally from Iceland, ended up being the lone member of Penn State’s 2023 signing class to suit up for the team.
Three players— Carey Booth, Logan Imes and Braeden Shrewsberry— all singed their letters of intent in November 2022. But after Braeden Shrewsberry’s father, Micah, left his job as Penn State’s head coach for the same position at Notre Dame, all three requested and were granted releases from the LOI. Unsurprisingly, all three ended up at Notre Dame. Guomundsson ended up committing to Penn State in May, less than two months after the school hired Mike Rhoades to succeed Shrewsberry.
Rhoades had been familiar with Guomundsson’s family because his brother, Jon Axel, was an A-10 Player of the Year at Davidson during Rhoades tenure as head coach of fellow A-10 school Virginia Commonwealth.
Bragi Guomundsson appeared in seven games for Penn State this season, scoring six points. His most recent appearance came in Penn State’s first-round Big Ten tournament in over Michigan.
Favor Aire has also entered the transfer portal according to Rivals and Lions247. Aire played in 12 games for Penn State this season and scored a total of seven points. The former top 70 recruit stared his career at the University of Miami in the 2022-23 season before transferring to Penn State. He’ll have two seasons of eligibility remaining.
Penn State ended its season with a 16-17 record, falling to Indiana in the second round of the Big Ten Tournament.
