Penn State Adding Miami Transfer Favour Aire

Miami transfer Favour Aire has committed to Penn State basketball, he announced via Instagram Monday afternoon.

Aire (6-foot-11, 215 pounds) was part of Miami’s first-ever Final Four team this past season.

He appeared in 14 games, scoring a total of nine points and posting nine rebounds.

He didn’t see any action in the NCAA Tournament.

An Ekpoma, Nigeria, native, Aire came to Miami as a four-star recruit after a career at Bishop McNamara High School in District Heights, Maryland. He was the No. 119 overall prospect from the 2022 recruiting class. He entered the transfer portal last month and is heading from Coral Gables to State College.

Back when Aire was in high school, 247Sports’ Director of Basketball Recruiting Jerry Meyer described him as a Power-5 starter.

“Has a strong and long physique with the capability of putting on more weight and gaining more strength,” Meyer wrote. “Has a top notch motor. Runs the floor well and possesses a commitment to defend and rebound. Is a quick and strong two-foot leaper. Tracks down shot blocking opportunities. Will be able to effectively defend ball screen situations. Is a dangerous offensive rebounder. Not a ball handling threat nor a jump shooting threat at this point. Does have a reliable right hand jump hook. Primarily feeds off dump down passes for dunks and put back opportunities. Is a raw prospect all around but is developing on both sides of the basketball. Defensive is ahead of the offensive at this point.

At the moment, it seems like Aire will compete with Qudus Wahab (also 6-foot-11) for playing time at center. Wahab transferred from Penn State to Georgetown last month. Penn State and new coach Mike Rhoades have now filled 12 of 13 scholarship slots, eight of which are transfers. Aire has three seasons of eligibility remaining.
