The Jacksonville Jaguars revealed the jersey numbers of their rookie class Thursday afternoon, and former Penn State players Brenton Strange and Parker Washington have new numbers.
Strange, the Jaguars’ second-round pick, No. 61 overall, will wear No. 85, which is one off from the No. 86 he wore at Penn State.
Strange’s old number is worn by another tight end, Garrit Prince.
Washington, the first of the Jaguars’ sixth-round picks (No. 185 overall), will be wearing No. 11 in Jacksonville, which is different from the No. 3 he wore at Penn State.
Washington’s old number is worn by backup quarterback CJ Bethard, who is in his seventh year out of Iowa.
Strange and Washington will report to Jacksonville’s rookie minicamp, which takes place May 12-13.
A Sugar Land, Texas, native, Washington played at Penn State from 2020-22. He spent his first two seasons as Penn State’s No. 2 option behind future Washington Commander Jahan Dotson.
This past season, Washington became the leading man, recording 46 catches for 611 yards and two touchdowns.
As defending AFC South champions, Jacksonville is trying to win back-to-back division championships for the first time since the 1998-1999 seasons.
At this year’s Blue-White Game, Strange told NSN that whichever team drafted him would get a “versatile piece in their offense.”
“A leader,” Strange said. “Just someone who comes in every single day, works hard, makes the team better.”
After getting drafted, Strange told Jaguars.com something similar.
” You can put me anywhere on the offense and be effective,” Strange said. “You can put me in multiple different positions to be able to impact the game. That’s my best strength.”
