James Franklin’s team cracked the top 10 for the first time this season the day after its Week 5 win over Northwestern. That might be the only time it gets into the top 10 this year.
Despite its emphatic win, Michigan stayed at No. 4 in AP Poll, still two places behind the Big Ten’s top-ranked school, Ohio State. In the Coaches Poll, Michigan is No. 3, and Ohio State is also No. 2.
Ohio State takes on Penn State at Beaver Stadium Oct. 29 for a “Big Noon Kickoff” on Fox.
The big ten’s fourth-ranked school is a surprise in Illinois. The 6-1 Illini have already eclipsed their win total from last season, and come in at No. 18 in the AP Poll and No. 20 in the coaches.
Penn State doesn’t play Illinois this season, and therefore, its final scheduled opponent currently ranked in the top 25 is Ohio State.
Georgia is No. 1 in both polls, followed by Ohio State. Tennessee, fresh off a landmark win over Alabama, is No. 3 in both polls, and Bama moved down to No. 6 in both.
Outside of the two main polls, Penn State is No. 18 in ESPN’s SP+ rankings.
Penn State looks to bounce back from the Michigan Massacre this coming Saturday, Oct. 22, against Minnesota at 7:30 on ABC. It will be the school’s annual White Out game. Minnesota fell out of the rankings following a loss to Purdue at home Oct. 1
