Penn State didn’t look great in its 17-7 win over Northwestern this past Saturday.
Nonetheless, it moved up on the latest AP poll and is now in the top 10.
Penn State moved ever so slightly, but is now in the top 10 for the first time since last October.
Coach James Franklin’s team moved from No. 11 to No. 10.
Penn State is one of three Big Ten teams ranked in the top 25, and all three ranked Big Ten squads are in the top 10.
Ohio State, which Penn State plays at Beaver Stadium Oct. 29, is No. 3. Michigan, which Penn State plays in “The Big House” Oct. 15, is No. 4.
Michigan is Penn State’s next opponent after this week’s bye.
Elsewhere in the top 25, Alabama is the new No. 1 after previous No. 1 Georgia struggled to a 29-22 win at Missouri. But Georgia didn’t move down far, and the top two teams in the land are still in the SEC.
The other two teams in the top four are in the Big Ten.
Minnesota fell out of the rankings after losing to Purdue, 20-10, at home this past Saturday. The Gophers made their top 25 debut last Sunday, coming in at No. 21 after a convincing win at Michigan State.
It’s not yet known whether Minnesota will be ranked again when it plays Penn State Oct. 23 at Beaver Stadium in the annual “White Out” game.
