Penn State Predictions: NSN Staff Gives Buffalo Picks

James Peoples hurdles Temple defender - Penn State Athletics

Penn State ends its non-conference slate Saturday against Buffalo, and here are NSN’s predictions for how that will go down.

Penn State’s last tune up before the conference schedule begins is another opportunity to gel the PSU and Iowa State mix into one. Rocco Becht has a clear connection with Chase Sowell, Benjamin Brahmer, and Brett Eskildsen but Andrew Rappleyea only has two catches in two games.

The offensive line needs to form cohesion and ranks 80th in the country. The defense has played well, but questions remain up front with how Penn State will replace Max Granville’s expected impact. It wasn’t a pretty win against Temple and starting out strong should be a main point of emphasis. Penn State wins it and starts to answer some of the questions they just have answered.

Penn State 45, Buffalo 3

Jarrod Prugar: Establishing the run would be nice and give a jolt of confidence heading into conference play, but this offense has also shown it’s going to take what’s there. The defense is legit and should continue playing lights out against Buffalo.

Me: Penn State is going to win. It’s just a matter of how much. I think this team showed against Marshall that it knows how to start fast against an inferior opponent and never let up. Buffalo is the worst team Penn State will play this year, so there’s no reason why we shouldn’t expect this to be more like the Marshall game and less like the Temple one.

Kyle Golik: Penn State’s going to have an avalanche early on Buffalo, but you’re going to see a lot of twos and threes get meaningful reps. And when you have that, you’re going to see sloppy play, you’re going to see Buffalo keep their ones in longer and be able to have some success. Which isn’t an indictment of Penn State, it’s at the point of, hey, we’re just seasoned.

Penn State 41, Buffalo 9
