Penn State will be without defensive end Max Granville for Saturday’s noon kickoff against Temple.
Granville, a sophomore who has been part of the Nittany Lions’ defensive end rotation, is out for Penn State’s second game of the 2026 season. The game is scheduled to air nationally on ESPN2.
The 6-foot-3, 252-pound Granville appeared in Penn State’s season-opening 45-0 victory over Marshall, playing 22 defensive snaps. Six of those snaps came in run defense, while Granville rushed the passer 16 times.
Granville didn’t record a tackle or sack against the Thundering Herd, but he did generate two pressures, including one quarterback hit and one hurry.
According to Pro Football Focus, Granville received a 54.2 overall defensive grade for his performance. His highest mark came as a pass rusher, where he earned a 57.1 grade. He finished with a 54.6 run-defense grade.

His absence takes away a rotational piece from a Penn State defensive front that was able to spread snaps around in the opener. Granville entered the season working behind starting defensive end Ike Ezeogu on Penn State’s depth chart.
With Granville unavailable, Penn State will have to lean further into its remaining defensive end rotation against the Owls.
Penn State enters Saturday looking to build on its shutout victory over Marshall and improve to 2-0 under first-year head coach Matt Campbell. The Nittany Lions and Owls are scheduled to kick off at noon, with ESPN2 carrying the broadcast.
