Four-star interior offensive lineman Carter Jones has narrowed his recruitment to four schools, and Penn State remains firmly in the mix.
Jones, a 6-foot-5, 280-pound lineman from Poquoson High School in Poquoson, Virginia, has Clemson, Penn State, Georgia and Tennessee in his final four. He is rated as the No. 2 interior offensive lineman in Virginia and the No. 10 overall prospect in the state.
Penn State offensive line coach Ryan Clanton has led the Nittany Lions’ recruitment of Jones. His April 11 official visit to Penn State Jones said was “really helpful” for the program’s standing on his board, giving the Nittany Lions another chance to make an impression in a competitive recruitment.
Jones has already taken official visits to Georgia on April 17 and Tennessee on April 24. Clemson, which many recruiting insiders view as the current leader, is scheduled to host Jones for an official visit on May 29. Clemson has been the most frequent stop in his recruitment with eight visits, while Penn State is second with five.
On the field, Jones brings the profile of a physical, tone-setting blocker. Playing in a wing-T offense, he has shown the ability to overwhelm high school defenders with size, strength and finishing power. He is a strong drive blocker and impactful down blocker who can cave in a side of the line.
Jones also owns valuable two-way experience, with defensive snaps showing encouraging flexibility. There is room to improve balance and body control, and his run-heavy offense has limited his traditional pass-protection reps. Though he has experience at tackle, Jones projects inside as a Power Four guard with multi-year starter upside.
