After a slow start in the 2027 recruiting cycle, Penn State appears to be in high gear after Friday’s commitment from offensive lineman Owen Reilly, a Top 15 prospect in Maryland’s 2027 class.
Reilly, a 6-foot-4, 290-pound lineman from Bel Air, has visited Penn State twice previously. He first attended camp in June 2024 before returning last August for the season opener against Nevada.
From a scouting standpoint, Reilly projects best on the interior, where his frame, functional athleticism and physical demeanor fit what offensive line coach Ryan Clanton covets. Although Bel Air moved him outside to left tackle during the 2025 season, Reilly’s long-term future looks to be inside at the Power Four level. His natural power, ability to create movement at the point of attack and mobility pulling to the perimeter on sweeps all point to him being a strong guard prospect.
Penn State was hardly alone in pursuing him. Reilly also visited Maryland, Rutgers, South Carolina, West Virginia and Virginia Tech during his recruitment.
“After a lot of thought, prayer, and conversations with my family, I’m blessed to announce that I will be continuing my academic and athletic career at Penn State University,” Reilly said on a post on X.
“I want to thank God for guiding me, my family for sacrificing everything, The Penn State Coaches, My high school Coaches, Coach Siegel, Coach Meixsell, Coach Pickett, and Coach Lavard, Coach Daryl from FTR, My agent Seth, My trainer Coach Brown and all my teammates who made me who I am today. This is just the beginning.”
Both Rivals and 247Sports rate Reilly as an 88 overall three-star prospect. The Industry Rankings place him No. 608 nationally, No. 43 among interior offensive linemen and No. 13 overall in Maryland for the 2027 class.
