Penn State hockey added another major future piece Friday when London Knights left wing Jaxon Cover announced his commitment to the Nittany Lions on Instagram.
“I am proud and honoured to announce my commitment to play division 1 hockey at Penn State University,” Cover wrote. “I would like to thank my family, friends, coaches and advisors.”
Cover, 18, is coming off a strong 2025-26 season in the OHL, playing 67 games for one of junior hockey’s premier programs and producing 52 points on 20 goals and 32 assists. A four-star prospect according to Puck Preps, Cover is also expected to hear his name called early in the 2026 NHL Draft.
He has already drawn significant NHL attention. Cover was ranked No. 45 among North American skaters on NHL Central Scouting’s midterm list for the 2026 draft, with evaluators pointing to both his skating ability and long-term offensive upside.
“His game has really trended in the right direction being a first-year player at the OHL level,” NHL Central Scouting associate director David Gregory said. “He’s a really strong skater who’s starting to use his size to be both the power forward and player that can beat you with a dangle or lateral movement.”
At 6-foot-1 and 180 pounds, Cover brings an intriguing blend of skill, size, and creativity. His background makes him even more unique.
Though born in Miami, Cover was raised in the Cayman Islands, where he first developed as a standout inline roller hockey player. That unconventional upbringing helped shape the shiftiness and puck skill that now define his game. Cover moved to Canada at age 12 and soon discovered a passion for ice hockey, eventually working his way into the OHL with London.
Now, his path is taking him to Hockey Valley, where Penn State is landing one of the more fascinating and talented young forwards in the 2026 recruiting cycle. It is expected that Cover will arrive for the 2027-28 hockey season.
