Voluntary workouts for NFL franchises with new head coaches begin this week as players re-enter team facilities for the first time.
The workouts are the first step in preparation for training camp in late July.
It also marked the first day back in the building for a former impactful Penn State defensive lineman.
Veteran P.J. Mustipher re-signed with the Arizona Cardinals on Tuesday, the Cardinals announced. He signed a one-year deal after being tendered an offer as an exclusive rights free agent.
The 6-foot-4, 320-pound defensive tackle played 15 games in Arizona last season, totaling 32 tackles, one tackle for loss, and one pass defended.
Mustipher, 26, spent 2024 on the Cardinals’ practice squad before carving out a rotational role for himself.
He signed as an undrafted free agent with the New Orleans Saints in 2023 and played in four games.
The former PSU interior defender played five years at Penn State from 2018-22. In 53 games, Mustipher registered 145 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, three sacks, two forced fumbles, and one pass defended.
Mustipher recorded 35 or more tackles in three seasons and was a two-time team captain. He earned Second-Team All-Big Ten during his final two years in Happy Valley.
Penn State awarded Mustipher with the Tim Shaw Thrive Award and the Lions Pride Outstanding Senior Player Award during the 2022 season.
A new generation of Nittany Lions will hear their name called, or receive a call like Mustipher did to make an impact as an undrafted free agent, when the NFL Draft comes to Pittsburgh from April 23-25.
