Penn State Wrestling Matches Shutout Record in Demolition of Northwestern

For Penn State wrestling coach Cael Sanderson, PSU football legend Saquon Barkley is “a beast.”

Everybody knew Penn State wrestling was going to beat Northwestern, and that’s exactly what happened.

But even with Penn State wrestling, shutouts are still eye opening, and since Penn State got 51 out of a possible 60 team points in Evanston Sunday afternoon, that’s something to talk about.

Penn State has shut out five  of its opponents so far this season, which already matches its full total for last year and is tied for the most in the Cael Sanderson era, along with last year’s team and the 2012-13 squad.

There are still six dual meets left.

Every one of Penn State’s wins was of the bonus point variety, and one of the bouts didn’t even happen at all. Northwestern chose to forfeit its bout at 165, where Penn State has perhaps the best pound for pound wrestler in the country in Mitchell Mesenbrink.
