Penn State Football picked up the commitment of 2026 ATH Josiah Zayas, a three-star recruit with the potential to play both wide receiver and cornerback at the next level, on Sunday, Jan. 4.
Zayas, who stands 6-foot-2, weighs 200 pounds and hails from Edison, N.J., announced the move in a post to his Instagram account. Many college players need at least a season to bulk up before seeing significant time on the field. While Zayas’ skills may need polishing, he already has the build of a college athlete.
He’d initially committed to Iowa State, but will follow members of the Cyclones’ staff like head coach Matt Campbell and wide receivers coach Noah Pauley to Happy Valley. Zayas also had offers from Wisconsin, Boston College, Syracuse and Wake Forest.
His tall, muscular frame already puts him in rarefied air for a cornerback. While he’s built more like a safety, Zayas reportedly ran a 4.5 second 40-yard dash in 2024. That means he has the speed to go stride for stride with college receivers downfield and the size to bump them off their routes. On the other side of the ball, he’ll present a big-bodied target who knows how to beat defensive backs at their own game owing to his experience as one.
