It didn’t take long for former Penn State offensive coordinator Andy Kotelnicki to find his next coaching job.
Kotelnicki led Penn State’s offense to a 22-10 victory over Clemson in the 2025 Bad Boy Mowers Pinstripe Bowl at Yankee Stadium on Saturday.
On Friday, Kansas announced it’s bringing Kotelnicki back. The Jayhawks are hiring Kotelnicki as an Associate Head Coach in 2026 to rejoin head coach Lance Leipold’s staff.
Kotelnicki came to Penn State after three seasons at Kansas as offensive coordinator, including the 2023 season as associate head coach.
Leipold and Kotelnicki have worked together for 11 years, including stops at Buffalo and DIII UW-Whitewater.
Kotelnicki guided Penn State’s offense for two seasons and returned in 2025 despite significant interest from West Virginia to be its head coach.
Penn State’s offense ranked 86th in total yards (362), 102nd in passing yards (177.8), and 50th in rushing (174.2), but tied for 34th in third-down percentage (43.6%) and 36th in points (31) this season.
The offense took a step back in year two without Tyler Warren and a completely new wide receiving core.

Matt Campbell brought Iowa State offensive coordinator Taylor Mouser with him to lead the Nittany Lions. Iowa State finished 8-4 and ranked 9th in the Big 12 in yards per game (396.1), 11th in points (27.4), tied for 65th in the country in third-down percentage (40.1%).
The transfer portal opened on Friday and remains open for a 15-day window until January 16.
