Former Penn State safety and current Houston Texans rookie Jaylen Reed was the victim of a carjacking incident earlier this month, per court records obtained by KHOU.com.
Per police, when Reed got home Jan. 4, three men wearing masks and carrying rifles confronted him, with one of them being 20-year-old Montreal Dwayne Frye.
The three men are alleged to have ordered Reed to give them everything in his home before stealing his SUV and fleeing the scene, per investigators.
Police say they then located Reed’s stolen vehicle and pursued it before the suspects crashed.
After the crash, two of the suspects left the SUV, and police took Frye into custody.
Per KHOU, Frye went to court Jan. 9, and prosecutors requested to reset his case. Frye’s next court date is set for Feb. 10.
Frye’s bond is $500,000, and court records signify that he had been on probation for evading.
Court documents say that the reason Reed was the target was that he’s a “known public figure in the community.”
Houston police told KHOU that they are still looking for the other two suspects.
After ending his career at Penn State, Reed went to the Texans in the sixth round of this year’s draft. He ended up playing in seven regular-season games for Houston, and this past Monday night, he was activated for the Texans’ wildcard playoff win over the Steelers in Pittsburgh.
