When four-star Appoquinimink (Middletown, Delaware) offensive lineman Layton Von Brandt spoke with Nittany Sports Now, he hinted that Penn State could reemerge as one of his top contenders in the Class of 2027.
That speculation became reality on Sunday. According to Rivals/On3 recruiting analyst Hayes Fawcett, Von Brandt has placed the Nittany Lions back among his Top 8 schools.
Joining Penn State on the list are Ohio State, Virginia Tech, Notre Dame, Florida, LSU, Tennessee, and Auburn.
Penn State originally secured a commitment from Von Brandt in November 2024, and the relationship remained strong early in the process. He has visited State College 11 times, more than any other program.
However, following the firing of head coach James Franklin on October 12, Von Brandt decommitted from Penn State, along with fellow Class of 2027 prospects Kemon Spell and Gabe Jenkins.
Since taking over in State College, new head coach Matt Campbell and offensive line coach Ryan Clanton have made re-recruiting Von Brandt a priority. The staff officially re-offered him on December 12, signaling Penn State’s continued interest.
“I had a chance to talk to him briefly, which I really appreciated him taking the time to do,” Von Brandt said.
“He seems like a very disciplined and principled coach who believes team success comes before individual success,” Von Brandt added. “That’s something I really identify with as an offensive lineman, because that’s what playing OL is all about.”
