The Penn State men’s basketball team will square off against Pittsburgh in a Keystone Clash in Hershey, Pennsylvania on Sunday, December 21 at Noon. Sunday’s game will be the first NCAA basketball game hosted inside the neutral-site GIANT Center.
This will be the 149th time in program history the in-state rivals will play one another.
Jeff Capel is in his eighth year at the helm for (6-6) Pitt.
They are led by four Panthers averaging double-digits in points. Cameron Corhen is a 6′-10″ senior forward averaging 13.6 points and 8.9 rebounds per game. Brandin Cummings is a 6′-3″ sophomore guard averaging 12.8 ppg. He is followed by 6′-6″ senior guard, Barry Dunning, Jr., who is tallying 11.9 points and 5.3 rebounds per game and Damarco Minor is a 6′-0″ senior guard registering 11.1 points, 4.1 rebounds and 2.9 assist per game.
The (8-3) Nittany Lions are coming off a heartbreaking 76-72 loss to the No. 9 ranked team in the country, the Michigan State Spartans.
The Blue & White are still being led by freshman point guard, Kayden Mingo, who is averaging 15.0 points, 4.1 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game. Redshirt junior, Freddie Dilione V., continues his hot, steady play off the bench scoring 14.2 ppg. and grabbing 3.4 rpg. Freshman, Melih Tunca, follows at 12.1 ppg. and 3.1 apg.
The last time the Nittany Lions and Panthers met was in 2017 when PSU beat Pitt, 85-54, at the Legends Classic in Brooklyn, New York. Penn State owns a 76-72 advantage in the all-time series that dates back to 1906.
