Michigan fired head coach Sherrone Moore Wednesday afternoon, and by nightfall, Moore had been detained by police in Saline, Mich.
He was detained by police as they launch an investigation into allegations brought forth with his alleged inappropriate relationship with his secretary.
“U-M head football coach Sherrone Moore has been terminated, with cause, effective immediately,” the school said in a statement. “Following a University investigation, credible evidence was found that Coach Moore engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member.
“The conduct constitutes a clear violation of University policy, and U-M maintains zero tolerance for such behavior.”
Moore, who is married and has three kids, was fired after two seasons with the Wolverines and had been with the program since 2018, when he started as an assistant coach.
Moore currently has a one-game suspension lined up for next season as part of his punishment from the Connor Stalions’ sign-stealing saga.
Moore is the most recent coach from the Mitten State to get fired with cause. Ex-Michigan State coach Mel Tucker was fired for alleged inappropriate phone calls to a sexual assault survivor who had spoken to his team.
Moore was 9-3 this season and 17-8 overall including an interim stint as head coach in 2023
It is unknown whether Moore will be charged criminally or not at the time of this writing.
