University Park, PA — A significant development suggests Penn State may be nearing a resolution in its search for a new head football coach.
On the university’s Board of Trustees meeting calendar, a newly listed session has appeared, scheduled between December 8 and 11, featuring an updated agenda for the Committee on Equity and Human Resources. This detail is noteworthy because it is the same committee that earlier this year approved the hiring of defensive coordinator Jim Knowles. Historically, this committee has been involved in reviewing and approving major athletic personnel decisions, making the timing of this meeting particularly intriguing.
The move comes nearly two months after athletic director Pat Kraft dismissed James Franklin on October 12, triggering one of the most turbulent coaching searches in recent Penn State history. Despite the program’s status as a Top-10 job with vast resources, national prestige, and strong fan support, the search has faced complications from agent dynamics to internal administrative scrutiny, creating heightened urgency for a resolution.
The sudden posting of a committee meeting with an expanded agenda has fueled speculation that Penn State is preparing to present and approve the contract of its next head coach. While no official announcement has been made, the procedural pattern aligns with how the university has handled major coaching hires in the past.
If the timing holds, Penn State supporters may not have to wait much longer before learning who will lead the Nittany Lions into a new era, if both Matt Campbell and Penn State can come to a deal.
According to On3’s Pete Nakos both sides are “working to finalize” a deal.
