We won’t know for sure until Saturday night if Penn State football’s clash against Nebraska will be a White Out, but interim HC Terry Smith wants it.
When speaking with PSU play-by-play man Steve Jones on Thursday night’s Penn State Coaches Show, Smith called for one of college football’s most famous spectacles to return.
“White Out it is,” Smith said. “Let’s do it. … It’s senior night. It’s our last time at Beaver Stadium for the season. There’s no better atmosphere than Beaver Stadium at night time.”
This would be the second White Out of 2025, with the first one taking place during Penn State’s game against Oregon Sept. 27.
WHITE OUT ENERGY
This wouldn’t be the first time PSU had an impromptu White Out Game. Last September, then-coach James Franklin called for “White Out… energy” the week before Penn State’s game against Illinois. The fans obligated, and brought the energy to a PSU win.
A lot has changed since then.
PSU ended the 2024 season with two College Football Playoff wins and 13 total— the most in school history.
Although the team fell short of a national title game appearances by three points, most of its key players returned for 2025, creating the highest expectations for any Penn State team in more than three decades.
But the team’s scheduled White Out game against Oregon was the game that started a six-game losing streak, during which, Penn State fired Franklin.
Now, it’s senior night, and PSU needs to win its last two games to become bowl eligible.
WINNING OUT
PSU has two regular season games left, with a road game at Rutgers following Senior Night. But before the season finale, Penn State must take care of business against Nebraska.
PSU is a 9.5-point favorite against Nebraska. Although Nebraska is 7-3 and Penn State is 4-6, Nebraska has looked unimpressive in several of its wins, whereas Penn State has been competitive in every game except the second half against Ohio State.
Nebraska is also playing its second game without QB Dylan Raiola, who suffered a season-ending injury.
PSU-Nebraska is scheduled for 7:30 on NBC.
