Penn State football has lost one of its Class of 2026 commits to Bill Belichick and North Carolina.
David Davis, a four-star corner from Imani Christian in the Pittsburgh Area, has flipped his commitment from PSU to UNC.
Davis had been committed to Penn State since March.
His commitment at the time made perfect sense. Led by James Franklin and Terry Smith, Penn State experienced considerable success in recruiting in Western Pennsylvania. One of Davis’ former teammates, Dayshaun Burnett, is currently a freshman at Penn State, and another teammate, Gabe Jenkins, had been committed to its Class of 2027.
Then, everything torpedoed.
Penn State lost three straight games— two of them as heavy favorites— which led to Franklin’s firing, which then led to a plethora of decommitments, flips and players staying committed but re-opening their recruitment.
Davis never formally de-committed, but did have his recruitment open, as evidenced by his official visit to UNC this past weekend.
That visit was convincing enough for Davis to flip.
“Coach Belichick’s all about the details and being prepared,” Davis told On3Sports about his official visit. “He emphasized mastering the fundamentals and always looking for ways to improve, no matter how small.”
Davis also had offers from schools such as Cincinnati, Michigan State, Pitt, Kentucky, Tennessee and West Virginia.
Davis is the third Penn State ’26 commit to change schools in the past week, with the first two announcements coming Tuesday. Isaac Chukwurah, a defensive tackle commit, picked Miami, and OL Jack Fuchs switched to Northwestern.
Penn State now has 14 players committed to its 2026 Class, with the early signing period scheduled from Dec. 3-5.
