The No. 1 running back recruit in the class of 2027 says he’s staying at Penn State.
McKeesport running back Kemon Spell committed to Penn State as a sophomore Aug 2, 2024. Spell has blossomed into the No. 1 player in Pennsylvania and 247Sports’ No. 9 recruit in the country.
Questions have lingered on whether Spell would remain committed or test his options elsewhere.
Following a 293-yard rushing day and five total touchdowns against Delaware Valley in his season opener, Spell told Hayes Fawcett of On3 there were six potential programs he could flip to, including rivals Ohio State, Notre Dame, and Michigan.
Things have changed for Spell nearly one month later, and he appears locked in on Penn State.
“I am staying,” Spell said on social media this week in response to a comment questioning if he would stay at PSU.
The five-star running back from outside of Pittsburgh is graded at 0.9959 on the 247Sports Composite scale.
James Franklin and defensive recruiting coordinator Terry Smith visited Spell at McKeesport during Penn State’s bye week, the day after Spell confirmed he will remain committed to the Nittany Lions.
Spell was in attendance at Penn State’s victory against Villanova and cancelled his intended visit to Notre Dame to see the Fighting Irish play Texas A&M. Spell confirmed to Nittany Sports Now that he will be in Happy Valley Saturday, Sept. 27, for the White Out against Oregon.
The Nittany Lions host Oregon to begin Big Ten play at 7:30 p.m. inside West Shore Home Field at Beaver Stadium on NBC.
