Former Penn State basketball forward Zach Hicks has signed a summer deal with the Boston Celtics, per Jon Chepkevich of DraftExpress.com.
The versatile, small forward from Camden, New Jersey started all 31 games during his senior year of the 2024-2025 season. He averaged 11.6 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game. Hicks also registered a phenomenal True Shooting Percentage (TS%) of 65.5% with more than 70% of his field goal attempts coming from three where he averaged 2.39 triples per game that ranked fourth-best in the Big Ten. He also registered 18 double-digit scoring games which led Penn State in scoring on five occasions.
Before calling State College home, Hicks played for Temple during his freshman and sophomore years. At Temple he played in a total of 60 games and led the team in 3-point field goals in both seasons. He drained 141 threes with a 3-point shooting percentage of 36.3.
As a junior at Penn State he earned Honorable Mention All-Big Ten. Hicks started all 33 games and averaged 8.4 points and 3.9 rebounds per game. He also led the Penn State with 67 made 3-pointers and ranked second on the squad in rebounding, grabbing 130 and also tallied a free throw percentage of 81.3.
During his senior campaign, the sharp-shooting forward scored a season-high 22 points on 9-of-12 shooting and grabbed seven rebounds against Binghamton. Hicks’ senior year was also highlighted by finishing with 12 points, five rebounds, and a career-best three blocks against UMBC. Against Purdue Fort Wayne he scored a game high-tying 19 points draining five three-point shots and adding five rebounds and three steals in the win.
Hicks joins former teammate Yanic Konan Niederhauser, as the second Penn Stater to join an NBA squad this year.
