One of Penn State footballโs top transfer portal targets has set his official visit date.
It was reported late last weekend that former UNC LB Amare Campbell would be visiting Penn State.
Now, per Nittany Sports Nowโs sister outlet, The Portal Report, the date is officially Monday.
Campbell would be a big get for Penn State.
The 6-foot, 230-pounder had 76 tackles for Carolina last season to go along with 6.5 sacks.
Penn State could use another LB, especially on the inside. With three-year starter Kobe King departing for the NFL, there isnโt a clear front runner for Penn Stateโs MIKE linebacker position. Although Campbell doesnโt play exclusively on the inside, he started five games there last season per Pro Football Focus.
FRANKLIN DIDNโT SUGERCOAT IT

Penn State coach James Franklin didnโt sugarcoat things when asked about the linebacker room following the teamโs annual spring game late last month.
โIf thereโs a linebacker out there that wants to come and be a part of our program and play for LBU, the most historic linebacker program in the history of college football, thereโs an opportunity here to join the room and compete,โ Franklin said. โI think weโve got enough in the room, but to get through an entire season, if we get some injuries, it could get challenging. So weโre gonna look at the portal, see if we can find a solution.โ
CAMPBELL ISNโT THE ONLY ONE
Campbell isnโt the only transfer portal linebacker Penn State is looking at.
Rivals reported late last weekend that Mahomed Toure was expected to visit Penn State soon. Come Tuesday, 247Sports reported that Penn State was hosting Toure, a 2023 all-Big Ten selection from Rutgers, that afternoon.
It remains to be seen whether Penn State will get one, or even both of these linebackers out of the transfer portal.
