The nationโs top analysts continue to shower the potential new-look Penn State offense with approbation, naming quarterback Drew Allar and receiver Trebor Pena amongst the best in the nation.ย
247Sportsโ Brad Crawford named Allar and Pena the No. 9 quarterback/wide receiver duo in the country.
Crawfordโs comments on Allar and Pena:ย
One of three offseason additions at wideout for the Nittany Lions, former Syracuse star Trebor Pena should act as the deep threat Penn State has missed in recent seasons. And with quarterback Drew Allar โ the potential No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft โ this offense is destined to produce numbers through the air. It helps when the 1,000-yard rushing duo of Nick Singleton and Kaytron Allen returns, too. Pena led the Orange with 11 touchdowns last season and was one of the highest-rated wideouts available during the spring transfer period.

Allar, who, as Crawford mentioned, is potentially the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, continues to climb Penn Stateโs passing record book ranking No. 6 in school history in passing yards (6,302) and No. 3 in touchdown passes (53). Allar already boasts school records in career interception percentage (1.2%), completion percentage (62.9 – minimum 100 attempts), and passing efficiency (144.0) statistics.
Pena (Syracuse) joins DeVonte Ross (Troy) and Kyron Hudson (USC) in a major overhaul of the Penn State wide receiver room. Pena had a breakout season with Syracuse last year leading the ACC in receptions (84) and aiding quarterback Kyle McCord to be leader in the FBS in passing completions, attempts, yards and yards per game.
Penn State barely averaged more than 100 yards per game to wide receivers, averaging 102.5. The wide receiver weakness became glaring during the College Football Playoff Semifinal at the Orange Bowl against Notre Dame where the wide receivers combined for zero yards.
