Recruiting: Penn State Signee Now a 5-Star

In recruiting news, one of Penn State football’s Class of 2025 signees is now a five-star.

Per 247Sports’ latest rankings, a 6-foot-6, 310-pounder named Malachi Goodman is one of the top signees in the country.

Goodman, the pride of New Jersey’s Paramus High School, is the No. 19 overall player in the nation per 247, as well as the No. 5 OT in the country and the No. 1 overall player in New Jersey.

This is another feature in the cap for Penn State OL coach Phil Trautwein. When Trautwein started at Penn State in 2020, the program hadn’t had a formidable offensive line in years.

Now, the room has progressed to the point where it’s one of the team’s greatest strengths.

Having players like Goodman in the pipeline will help that progression continue.

1ST-ROUND PICK?

Goodman will probably have to wait a while to crack Penn State’s starting lineup, let alone the NFL Draft.

But 247Sports’ Hudson Standish projects Goodman to be a first-round pick when the time comes.

Here’s his scouting report.

“The highest-rated recruit from New Jersey’s Paramus Catholic since the school produced Top-100 recruits Jabrill Peppers, Rashan Gary, and Drew Singleton in the 2010s. Measured in at 6-foot-5.5, 320 pounds with 10-inch hands, ideal arm length, and a nearly 6-foot-11 wingspan at the Navy All-American Bowl in San Antonio. Owns a wide frame with a thick lower half and showcases elite initial hand quickness that results in jarring punch power. One of the better offensive linemen in the 2025 recruiting cycle at climbing to the second level to pick off linebackers while maintaining the block on his initial assignment. Displays excellent reactionary athleticism in pass sets and responds well to counters from speedier pass-rushers if he isn’t able to stymie them upon initial contact. Functional strength in the upper and lower body is backed up by 46-7.25 foot personal best in the Shot Put in the Spring of 2024. Young for the 2025 recruiting cycle, and will enroll in college at 17 years old. Still has some technical refinement needed before he is ready to compete for a job at the next level, but could bake into a positionally flexible multi-year starter for a CFP contender with significant NFL Draft upside.”

OTHER RANKINGS NEWS

Goodman wasn’t the only Penn State Class of 2025 recruiting signee to rise in the rankings.
