One of Penn State footballโ€™s top receivers plans to enter the transfer portal.

Tuesday afternoon, word got out that Omari Evans plans to enter the transfer portal via Hayes Fawcett of On3Sports.

If Evans has indeed played his last game at Penn State, heโ€™ll be departing after three seasons, the last of which was the most productive.

Evans ended 2024 as the teamโ€™s second-leading wide receiver, with 415 yards and five touchdowns on 21 receptions. Evans was also Penn Stateโ€™s top home-run threat, averaging nearly 20 yards per catch (nobody else averaged as much as 16.)

Although Evans was one of the best amongst the receivers Penn State had in 2024, the consensus is PSU needs to have a much-different room in 2025.

IN NEED OF A MAKEOVER

Evansโ€™ apparent departure is another sign that the Penn State receivers room will look much different in 2025. We already knew that the team would be losing Julian Fleming, who is out of eligibility, and will be adding a pair of transfers in Kyron Hudson (USC) and Devonte Ross (Troy). The reason Penn Stateโ€™s receivers room will have such a different look is that the production in 2024 just wasnโ€™t good enough, and all of it culminated when the unit combined for zero catches and just five targets in the Orange Bowl/College Football Playoff semifinal loss to Notre Dame.

Tengwall: Penn State โ€˜Made No True Effortโ€™ With Receivers

On Drew Allarโ€™s last-minute interception, which set up Notre Dameโ€™s game-winning field goal, Evans was the intended target. It looks like that will be Evansโ€™ last play at PSU.

IS PENN STATE DONE ADDING?

Is Omari Evans leaving a sign that Penn State is planing to add more talent in the transfer portal?

Omari Evans signals for a first down.

So is Evans leaving a sign that Penn State isnโ€™t yet done adding in the transfer portal? It could be. Despite adding two talented targets for Allar, the fans want more, and maybe theyโ€™ll be getting it in the form of a big time player.

Penn State opens the 2025 season against Nevada at Beaver Stadium Aug. 30.
