Penn State Basketball is scheduled to take on Drexel in Wells Fargo on Saturday. Normally, this wouldn’t be a problem, but it just so happens that Penn State Football will kick off at the same time to begin its quest for a national championship.
Mike Rhoades was asked during Wednesday’s media availability if he had tried to reschedule his team’s next game. He responded with “We tried a couple different things to maybe move it, you know, I was totally, you know, understanding of doing that.
It just didn’t work out with in regards to the facility in regards to, you know, complimenting Drexel and all that and that.”
Rhoades is focused on getting a win, but he, along with a swarm of other Penn State faithful, will head to the famed Chickie’s and Pete’s to catch the ending of the opening round of the College Football Playoff.
“I’m going to sprint. Hopefully, we get a W, right, in 40 minutes, and I’ll go right over to Chickie and Pete’s and watch the rest of the football game. That will be my goal.”
Although it is a nonconference game, the hope of scheduling a matchup like this is to bring out fans who normally don’t have a chance to see PSU basketball, especially possible recruits.
“It’s another Penn State Basketball event where we’re in the Philly area that people could come see us.
I know there’s a lot of high school coaches and kids that we’ve talked to trying to get to the game and that, you know, that’s one reason why we’re doing it … I mean, it’s just, it’s a no-brainer, right, to be down there as much as we can to show off our program, I think could help us as we move forward, as we continue to keep building this.”
Both Penn State Basketball and Penn State Football (who is playing SMU) will start at noon on Saturday.
