It looked like Penn State may be in danger of losing one of its Class of 2025 commits to a to a rival school but there’s good news on that front.

Per a report by Ryan Snyder of Blue-White Illustrated, Penn State commit Chaz Coleman will no longer be visiting Ohio State for Saturday’s showdown against Michigan.

Instead, he will be in Happy Valley for Penn State-Maryland.

Coleman, a 6-foot-5, 205-pound defensive end prospect from Warren G. Harding High School in Warren, Ohio, received an offer from Ohio State earlier this month.

He was reportedly set to visit Columbus this weekend. But per BWI, plans have changed after Coleman discussed things with the Penn State coaching staff.

WHAT COLEMAN BRINGS

Coleman is a four-star recruit. He committed to Penn State late in the game, doing so less than a month before the early signing period begins.

In a scouting report written for 247Sports last week, national recruiting analyst Allen Trieu compared him to Harold Landry, a former Pro Bowler from the Tennessee Titans who starred at Boston College beforehand.

“Multi-faceted athlete who has played quarterback, tight end, linebacker and defensive end,” Trieu wrote. “Athleticism shows up in basketball also where he is a high-flying and impactful dunker. Projects most likely as a defensive prospect. Closes fast at that position, has agility and ability to bend the corner as a pass rusher. Comfortable in space, can drop into coverage and also play as a more traditional linebacker. Still has a lot of room for growth and physical development. Fits very well as the type of hybrid defender who never has to come off the field and can line up in several spots depending on scheme and package. Came into his own late in his high school career and may need a moment to adjust to the college level and develop technically, but has an extremely high ceiling.”

KEEPING AN OHIO KID AWAY FROM OSU

Penn State coach James Franklin’s gambles paid off in a major way Saturday, Nov. 23 in Minnesota.

This is big for Penn State partially because it keeps a guy who grew up in Ohio away from the Buckeyes. It would have been easy to see Coleman have a change of heart after getting offered. But it doesn’t look like that will be happening.

The early signing period begins Wednesday, Dec. 4 and runs through Friday, Dec. 6.
