MADISON, WI— Penn State QB Drew Allar has left tonight’s game at Wisconsin, at least for now.
Allar ran off the field late in the first half with an apparent injury.
When Penn State got the ball to start the second half, Allar wasn’t on the field and didn’t come out for the first drive.
For the most part, Allar was quite good in the first 30 minutes. He ended the first half 14 of 18 for 148 yards and a touchdown. He should have been 15-for-18, but a 3rd and 1 in the first quarter, fifth-year wideout Julian Fleming dropped what could have been a 28-yard TD.
A BIG TIME SEASON (SO FAR)

It’s hard to argue Allar hasn’t been an improved version of his 2023 self so far in 2024. Through six games— not counting the first half stats against Wisconsin— he’d completed more than 70 percent of his passes, throwing for 11 touchdowns and four interceptions. Three of those interceptions were against USC Oct. 12, with one of them being on a a Hail Mary.
During Saturday’s episode of College GameDay from Bloomington, Indiana, Nick Saban, the seven-time national championship-winning coach said that he feels Allar is one of America’s most consistent quarterbacks.
For Saban, among the best assets a quarterback can have is the ability to make smart choices and take care of the football. Allar has been historically good at not turning the ball over— although he did throw three interceptions in his last game, a 33-30 overtime win over USC, with one of them being on a Hail Mary. Saban feels Allar, Oregon QB Dillon Gabriel and Miami QB Cam Ward have been the best at this.
“The No. 1 thing about the QB is he’s gonna distribute the ball every play in the game,” Saban said. “So you’ve got to be able to trust the ball who’s gonna make good choices and decisions. To me, Dillon Gabriel, Cam Ward and Drew Allar at Penn State have been the guys that have been most consistent at that.”
“I think there’s a lot of other really good quarterbacks. But at times, they’ve all shown some cracks in their armor in their decision-making. You’ve got to play winning football, which means you can’t make plays for the other team. You’ve got to take what the defense gives.”
BEAU TIME

Beau Pribula picks up a first down on the ground.
At least for now, Beau Pribula is Penn State’s starting quarterback. He has thrown 10 passes in 2024, completing seven for 102 yards, two touchdowns and an interception.
Penn State’s 6-0 start is in jeopardy by virtue of it being behind in the second half. It was also behind against USC before coming back to win.
