Odds: After Big Upset, What’s the Spread for Penn State-USC?

In the wonderful land of odds, Penn State football’s clash with USC in the Coliseum Saturday, Oct. 12, won’t be the top 15 showdown most were expecting as of the previous week.

It’s likely that USC, which had been No. 11 before its stunning loss at Minnesota Saturday night, will still be ranked, especially considering four teams ranked ahead of it also lost, three to unranked competition.

But it won’t be anywhere near the top 10.

So many will be wondering what this does to the point spread? Well, as of now, not a whole lot.

FanDual installed an early betting line Friday morning before Penn State beat UCLA and had PSU as a 3.5-point favorite.

FanDual still has Penn State at -3.5. DraftKings has PSU favored by a field goal. BetMGM and Caesar’s Sportsbook each have Penn State as 4.5-point favorites, and BetRivers also has Penn State favored by 3.5.

Penn State has not done well in Vegas this season.

PSU only failed to cover the spread three times through 12 games in 2023 and has already matched that through five games this season.

Penn State was favored by 34.5 against Bowling Green in Week 2 and only won by seven.

Two weeks later, it was a 17.5-point favorite against then-No. 19 Illinois and won by 14. USC, on the other hand, is 3-2 both overall and in Vegas, with it being favored to win in its losses at Michigan and Minnesota.

Regardless of odds, Penn State and USC are scheduled to kick off at 3:30 on CBS, with the game starting at 12:30 on the west coast. CBS will have its A-team of Brad Nessler (PXP), Gary Danielson (color) and Jenny Dell (sideline) on the call.
