Next week, 10 Penn State players will be showing off their skills at this year’s NFL Combine in Indianapolis.
Amongst them is a man who was one of QB Drew Allar’s most reliable targets last season.
Theo Johnson ended his fourth and final season at Penn State tied for second on the team in receptions (34), tied for third on the team in receiving yards (341) and tied for first with seven touchdowns. Johnson announced before the team’s Peach Bowl game against Ole Miss that he’d play in the game but declare for the Draft. He ended up playing a limited amount of snaps against Ole Miss, but did catch a touchdown pass/
Johnson’s play both in 2023 and throughout his time at Penn State was impressive enough for him to receive an invite from the Reese’s Senior Bowl in Mobile, Alabama. Johnson impressed in Mobile, too, and for at least one NFL Draft scout, his stock is up headed into the Combine.
“Theo Johnson is on the rise, definitely,” Matt Miller told reporters, including Nittany Sports Now, on a conference call Tuesday. “I think there’s a good chance he’s the third tight end drafted, just because there’s such an appetite for that Y tight end, that big, nasty in-line tight end who does a great job in the middle of the field. No, you’re not flexing them out and asking them to play wide receiver, but they’re super reliable players.”
Penn State’s represented by four offensive players and six defensive players.
Johnson, tackles Olu Fashanu and Caedan Wallace, interior lineman Hunter Nourzad, defensive ends Chop Robinson and Adisa Isaac, linebacker Curtis Jacobs, and defensive backs Johnny Dixon, Daequan Hardy, and Kalen King will all participate in Combine activities.
