Penn State has landed its fourth transfer portal commitment of this cycle, and it’s a western PA kid.
Jordan Mayer is a 6-foot-4 defender who was listed as an EDGE coming out of Thomas Jefferson High School in the Pittsburgh Area.
After Thomas Jefferson, Mayer, a three-star from the ‘23 Class, signed with Wisconsin and played a season.
Wisconsin listed him as an outside linebacker, but he didn’t get any playing time. Mayer announced via Instagram Friday afternoon that he’s committing to Penn State out of the transfer portal. Mayer didn’t receive an offer from Penn State coming out of high school. He had originally been committed to Boston College, but flipped to Wisconsin. He’ll be coming to Penn State in a preferred walk-on capacity.
Mayer also had offers from schools such as Akron, Bowling Green, Buffalo, Central Michigan, Charlotte, Cincinnati, Duke, Duquesne, Eastern Michigan, Georgia Tech, James Madison, Kent State, Miami (Ohio), Navy, Ohio, Rutgers, Syracuse, Temple, Vanderbilt, Virginia Tech and West Virginia.
He’s the second transfer portal player in the past day+ to announce his commitment to Penn State.
Julian Fleming, another PA kid who was a five-star WR coming out of Southern Columbia High School, which is roughly an hour and a half away from State College.
Weeks before Fleming, Chase Meyer (almost the same last name), announced his commitment.
Meyer is a kicker who had been at Tulsa.
Penn State also got a commitment from OL Alan Herron, who had played at Division II Shorter. But Herron flipped to Maryland, who Penn State will be playing in Beaver Stadium on Senior Day 2024, scheduled for Nov. 30.
Penn State isn’t done in the transfer portal, and we’ll see what happens next.
