Penn State has had success at the cornerback position in recent years.
Joey Porter Jr. is thriving in his first season with the Steelers, and two of Porter’s former teammates, Kalen King and Johnny Dixon, are both slated to be in the league next season, as well.
As far as the future goes, head coach James Franklin, cornerbacks coach Terry Smith and company are in the mix for a four-star Class of 2025 CB from Baltimore’s St. Frances Academy. Kevyn “Kerm” Humes (5-foot-11, 185 pounds) has Penn State in his top six along with Florida, Maryland, Notre Dame, Syracuse and USC. He also set official visit dates for all six schools. Humes plans to visit Penn State the weekend of Jan. 19, Syracuse (Jan. 12-14), USC (Jan. 22-24), Notre Dame (Jan. 26-28) and Florida (Feb. 2-4). He doesn’t have dates set for Maryland yet.

In an interview with Blue-White Illustrated, Humes cited his relationship with Smith as a big drawing card.
“Penn State is a school I have visited three times and my relationship with Coach Terry Smith has skyrocketed this season,” Humes said. “I am very familiar with Penn State.”
Humes visited Beaver Stadium for Penn State’s Oct. 28 game against Indiana and Nov. 11 game against Michigan. Before that, he visited in late-March of 2022, when he was still a freshman, and picked up an offer on that visit.
Humes told BWI that Smith is “a main reason” for Penn State being on his list.
“He is a great coach and he has produced some top defensive backs,” Humes said. “He had a first-round pick last year in Joey Porter Jr. and Kalen King could be next. That development has my attention.”
