Another early signing day has come and gone for Penn State fans.
James Franklin puts together quality recruiting classes like he puts on socks, and this year was no exception.
The class had been complete for a while.
Penn State’s most recent commit, four-star DE Jaylen Harvey (Gaithersburg, Maryland), was the most recent ‘24 player to commit to Penn State, and he did so back in mid-October. But now that the class is signed, sealed and (almost) delivered, where do the major recruiting outlets rank it, and how do those rankings compare to Penn State’s 2023 class.
247Sports: No. 14
2023: No. 13
PSU finished exactly the same in 247Sports’s team rankings, which you’ll find is a pattern. After finishing No. 6 in 2022, Penn State technically took a step back the next season, but still finished in the top 15 and held steady. Per 247’s composites rankings, Penn State had 17 four-star signees and eight three-stars. Elsewhere in the Big Ten, Ohio State (No. 3), Oregon (No. 4, yes, we are counting it as a Big Ten team now), were the only Big Ten schools that finished ahead of Penn State. Michigan was just behind at No. 15.
On3: No. 15
2023: No. 14
Similar story, slightly different numbers. The biggest difference here is that On3 had PSU with just about the same amount of three stars as four stars, with the four-stars having the lead at 13-12. But the overall rankings were similar to 247 in each of the past two seasons. Elsewhere in the Big Ten, On3 had Ohio State at No. 3 and Oregon at No. 6, with Michigan still behind behind Penn State at No. 17.
Rivals: No. 16
2023: No. 16
Same song and dance. Rivals had PSU with 14 four-star signees 11 three-stars, keeping the same ranking the 2023 class had. Rivals also ranked Michigan at No. 12, just ahead of Penn State, with Ohio State being No. 2 and Oregon No. 7.J
