Penn State needs receivers out of the transfer portal.
Everybody knows that.
The receivers room was generally thought to be the team’s weak point throughout the 2023 regular season, and fans are calling head coach James Franklin, receivers coach Marques Hagans and co. to do something about it.
Apparently, a receiver who is currently on the roster and is set to be back next season also wants the position to be addressed. Omari Evans just wrapped up his second regular season at Penn State. Trent Husdon just entered the transfer portal after a season at New Mexico State and two at Trinity Valley Junior College, where he was an All-American. Hudson ended this past season with 551 yards and 10 touchdowns on 35 receptions, helping New Mexico State to a 10-4 record and berth in the Conference USA Championship Game.
In response to a social media post by Hudson, which listed his stats and quoted another post which featured his highlights, Evans had a clear message:
“Can we get em Penn State fans?”
Can we get em Penn state fans?? https://t.co/xwLHwaxCes

Evans and Hudson have an obvious connection: They were teammates at Shoemaker High School in Killeen, Texas, with Hudson being a year ahead.
Hudson was a force in the Conference USA Title Game, ending the evening with 112 yards and two touchdowns on seven receptions. New Mexico State ended up losing that game, 49-35, but was tied with undefeated and New Year’s Six bowl bound Liberty going into the fourth quarter.
The receivers room was generally thought to be the biggest weakness during Penn State’s 2023 regular season. Aside from KeAndre Lambert-Smith (53 catches, 673 yards, four TD), no Penn State WR had more than 246 yards. But Penn State’s had quality options at receiver throughout the James Franklin era. Players such as Chris Godwin, Jahan Dotson and KJ Hamler all became high-round NFL draft picks.
Penn State is sure to address the receivers room in some facet in this transfer portal window. While all this is going on, the team also has to worry about Lane Kiffen’s Ole Miss team. That’s who PSU plays in the Peach Bowl Dec. 30
