James Franklin and Penn State just keep rolling.
Since the team’s dominant 3-0 White Out win over Iowa Saturday, Penn State has gained three commitments in less than 72 hours.
The first was DJ McClary, a four-star Class of 2025 linebacker from Jersey City.
The second was Tiqwai Hayes, another ’25 prospect. Hayes is a four-star running back from arguably Western Pennsylvania’s most famous football power– Aliquippa. Tuesday morning, Penn State landed a commit from another Pittsburgh area star in North Catholic’s Brady O’Hara.
O’Hara’s a four-star recruit from North Catholic. He’s capable of playing defensive end and tight end, but the plan is for the 6-foot-6, 245-pounder to play left tackle in college.
O’Hara hasn’t played left tackle yet, but he told Pittsburgh Sports Now’s Logan Carney earlier this month that this is where PSU wants him to play.
“The more I think about, at first, I didn’t want to do it,” said O’Hara. “But when looking at things in a long-distance sense, if they make me a beast then I’ll play left tackle.”
“The more I think about, at first, I didn’t want to do it,” said O’Hara. “But when looking at things in a long-distance sense, if they make me a beast then I’ll play left tackle.”
“His frame is where I would start,” said Rizzo. “He’s an incredibly blessed athlete.”
Penn State now has five WPIAL commits combined from the 2024 and ’25 Classes. Penn State’s top-rated commit of the ’24 Class, Belle Vernon running back Quinton Martin, picked Penn State in April. Penn State also has commits from a pair of Central Catholic products in WR Peter Gonzalez and LB Anthony Speca, both three stars. We’ll see how much PSU can grow the Western Pennsylvania pipeline as time continues to go on and Franklin continues to build.
