Barnwell committed to Penn State, then de-committed, then finally re-committed and eventually signed last December.
And that was that, or so it seemed.
Earlier this month, Barnwell’s profile disappeared from Penn State’s roster page, and Nittany Sports Now got confirmation that he was not longer on the roster shortly after. Naturally, people started to speculate as to why this was the case. While the specifics of why Barnwell is seemingly moving on from Penn State are still unclear to the public, we now know that he intends to begin his college football career in 2023.
He first committed to Penn State in June 2020 before his sophomore year.
In January 2021, he de-committed and then re-committed in late September during his junior season.
On early signing day this past December, Barnwell officially became a Nittany Lion.
Barnwell was listed as an athlete and Penn State fans were unsure where he was going to play until signing day, when coach James Franklin announced that the team planned to have Barnwell as a tight end at the start.

PSU is still set to be solid at tight end. Theo Johnson is set to return for his fourth season, and Tyler Warren will be back for his third.
With a pair of promising freshman, Warren, Jerry Cross and third-year Khalil Dinkins coming back, Penn State’s tight ends room should be just fine in the present, and the future’s looking solid, as well.
