Penn State Football All 105 No. 7: CB Cam Miller Looking to Use Impressive Work Ethic to his Advantage in Year 2

Beaver Stadium -- David Hague

All 105 is Nittany Sports Now series profiling each Penn State football player. Our seventh player profile will feature second-year defensive back Cam Miller.

Height: 6-feet

Weight: 181 pounds

Hometown: Yulee, Florida

Before Penn State: Miller came to Penn State from Trinity Christian Academy in Jacksonville, Florida.

In his lone season at Trinity Christian, he helped his team to a state championship.

Before transferring to Trinity Christian, Miller played for Fernandina Beach High School, where he was three-year captain, two-time team MVP and eclipsed 2,000 yards of total offense in both his sophomore and junior seasons.

In his year at Trinity Christian, Miller contributed heavily on defense, finishing the year with 56 tackles (40 solo), six passes defended, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. Miller continued to play a role on offense, accounting for 751 all-purpose yards.

Miller, a four-star recruit, committed to Penn State in July 2021- picking PSU over UCF and Virginia Tech, among others— and signed in December of that year.

Last year: Miller appeared in 11 of Penn State’s 13 games, making five tackles (three solo).

Three of those tackles took place in Penn State’s 46-10 win over Ohio in the team’s home opener Week 2.

Where he stands: Miller’s certainly a player who could have a bigger role for Penn State in Year 2, what with the combination of his talent, the experience he gained from last season and the loss of top corner and new Steeler Joey Porter Jr. to the Draft.

The downside for Miller is that he’s part of a loaded position group. Kalen King is set to fill Porter’s shoes well as the team’s top corner, and could even be the top corner taken in the 2024 Draft. Johnny Dixon has four seasons of college football experience— two each at South Carolina and Penn State— and started all 13 games last season. The fifth-year senior is expected to again be a big part of coordinator Manny Diaz’s defense in 2023.

Nickelback Daequan Hardy is also entering year five, and should see quite a bit of playing time come September. On the younger side, true freshman Elliot Washington could also see some PT. The four-star signee from Venice High School in Florida arrived in the winter and comes with a solid pedigree, having been part of a state champion in 2021 and a runner-up this past season. Other ‘23 signees in four-star Zion Tracy (St. Thomas More HS) and three-star Lamont Payne (Carnegie, Pennsylvania), will be in the mix as well.

Miller has some stiff competition, but considering his talent and coordinator Manny Diaz’s reputation for using a bunch of DBs, there’s no reason he shouldn’t see an increased role in 2023.

A quote by Miller: “I take a lot of pride in my process and everything I do. Just being ready at all times so when my number is called, I’m ready.” — Miller at Penn State’s second-year player media availability this past February

A quote about Miller: “I didn’t come in as mentally ready as Cam Miller. Cam came in, he handles all his business, he’s never late… he’s always locked in, even in practice.” — Kalen King days before Penn State’s Rose Bowl win over Utah this past January.
