Etheridge, a wide receiver/cornerback listed at 5-foot-10, 156 pounds, has Penn State as a finalist along with Indiana, Pitt, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest and West Virginia.
He’s announcing his commitment May 13.
Nittany Sports Now caught up with Etheridge ahead of his announcement. Etheridge told NSN that Penn State is in the race “because of the coaches, and not just became of the name.
“Most people go off of the name,” Etheridge said. “Because when I went (to campus), it was a good vibe from the coaches, the players were cool dudes, treated me great, so it was cool. And coach (James) Franklin is a very good head coach.”
With less than a week left until he announces his commitment, Etheridge said it “feels good” that his decision is coming soon.
“It’s kind of a stress reliever,” Etheridge said, “even though it’s a good stress, it’s a stress reliever for me. Just take it in as a blessing to get the chance to have a commitment date.”
Wherever Etheridge goes, he plans to enroll in January.
So who will the school that lands Javier Etheridge get?
“They gonna get a great guy that’s willing to work at any time,” he said, “and they’re gonna get a hard worker. Just a beast mentality. They gonna get somebody that works for it all and got their back like no other.”
Penn State currently has 13 committed to its 2024 Class. The school’s top-rated commit, Quinton Martin, is listed as an athlete, like Etheridge. Martin hopes to play running back in college.
